This month, I had the privilege of listening to one of the staff members of YWAM give a sermon. I am so glad I took notes that’s day too because what he had to share was pretty powerful. I knew that after he finished speaking that I wanted to share with everyone. so here are the notes I took on what he shared about being a child of God.
There are things you will not get unless you are a child of God.
As a child of God you have:
- Assurance of salvation. It is a gift. To receive this gift you have to believe in Jesus and confess that he is the Lord of your life and then believe in your heart. (Romans 10:9-10) 1 John 5:13 — “I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.”
- God abides in us. God is love. When you spread love you spread God. You don’t give what you don’t have. You don’t give love if you do not have Christ in your heart. Be respectful. Obey the rules. Learning never stops. Give yourself to God so he can abide in you. 1 John 4:16 — “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
- We have peace with God through Jesus. Jesus came to make us right with God. We follow him because He will lead us to his father. If you believe, you have peace. Believe so you can be justified and have peace. Romans 5:1 — “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.”
- We have covenant with God. You have to believe to walk with Him. Do you have an agreement with the Lord? Because if you have a covenant with God he will protect you.
- You get to know and trust God personally. Christianity is not inherited. Trusting God means you give everything to him. Your life. Your friends. What you will eat. What you will wear. EVERYTHING. John 17:3 — “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
- You will have spiritual power over sin. If you are walking with the Lord and know him personally you have power over sin. Sin is darkness. If Christ is in us we are light. Where there is light, darkness cannot be. Sin is weaker than who you are. If you go into a dark room and “turn on the light” the presence of darkness is gone. 1 John 1:7 — “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
- You have protection from satan or evil. If you have God with you, satan cannot tempt you. If God abides in you, you have already overcome the evil one. (John 16:33)
- Have grace to forgive your enemies. Doing good is better for you. By doing good you are receiving an eternal blessing. Love is something when you have it it is natural. You don’t even have to think about giving it. Pray for others so that God can turn their heart. 1 Peter 3:9 — “Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.”
