It's 4am, the sun still hasn't made it's appearance, and we all load the green Revo. Complete with an ice chest picnic, a bag a of: towels, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, tp and a first aid kit, and last but not least, 6 backpacks and 6 pillows. We all assume our positions for the 3.5 hour drive incoherent yet completely aware that our reward was the beach.
I can't think of many things that would motivate me to be excited to get up at 3:30am knowing that there will be 7 hours of travel involved in the day, but the beach was a perfect motivation. I have always loved the beach, oceans, lakes, rivers. Basically if you can make me buoyant, I can love you. What else would motivate me to throw on some spandex and gallivant about showing off my less than sun-kissed skin for all to see?
Once we arrived at about 7am, we all piled out of the car each looking as though a small truck had ran over us, but still motivated at what awaited a mere 150 yards ahead of us. As we walked through the out of season resort we were surrounded by little cabanas and huts each themed with a different female name and plenty of kittens.
The moment came. We got to the shore. It wasn't a shore covered with white sand that was soft on the feet, but instead lots of rocks and fragments of coral that had washed upon the shore. We didn't care, we set out our towels, made ourselves at home and immediately ran for the water.
It. was. beautiful.
It was a giant looking glass. Everything was crystal clear. You could see the fish swimming around you and jump over the sea urchins waiting for their next victim and taste the salt in the back of your throat. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, we were surrounded by huge lush mountains and enveloped in world completely unknown below us.
About a half a mile into the ocean there was a cabana you could swim to and snorkel off of. You better believe we took off with our snorkel sets armed and ready to explore. I could not believe what was beneath me. Vibrant coral and hundreds of species of fish and plant life, each made according to their kind. I was captivated. I seriously found myself at a loss for words, pretty much limited to a series of "are you kidding me's," and "seriously's". It all hit at once, and our conversation from a few days before about Genesis 1 came to mind.
This is a third of my world that I hardly ever acknowledge. God in His perfect and complete creation formed sky, earth and water with His very words. While I dwell on earth and am encompassed by the sky, I am naive to the water. Even further than that it begins to unfold in my mind. My naivete to the water is not a choice I make, but my naivete to every single other part of God's creation is a choice. Walking the earth completely choosing to only sporadically notice what the Lord's voice has spoken into being and what His hands have molded.
"From the highest of heights, to the depths of the sea, creation's revealed in your majesty"
Kudos to you Lord. Way to be perfect and omniscient and sovereign in every single thing that you are. Go You, You're awesome!
