I am currently in draganesti-olt. this part of Romania is known as the graveyard. It is known as that because because just 0.2% of people are born-again christians and because of that it is very, very hard for missionaries and pastors here. So most try to avoid the area because how hard it is to live in the region. this just makes me absolutely amazed I figured with such a low percentage one would think that more christians would come to the area to try to be a light for the lost.
Instead they try to avoid it or leave after just a few months of being here. We have been working with an amazing pastor who has been in the area for many years named Raul. This man’s heart for God and his Love for people is amazing. The way Raul sees everyone is utterly astounding to me. No matter how they act or their background or how they receive him he pursues them. Yesterday I got to see some of the love he has for people in action.
We went to two separate villages and took people’s blood pressure, gave them proper seeing glasses, then we offered them some scriptural based magazines, and offered new testament bibles. While we did this I noticed that everytime I saw Raul he had a huge smile on his face. Raul was constantly interacting with people and connecting with people on a personal level. Well I assumed he was I don’t speak Romanian. However I don’t need to speak the same language to see the joy he brought to people through a basic conversation. Seeing the joy that even non believers get from being around him is so encouraging.
What’s more encouraging is the fact that all the missionaries who have stayed in this area that I met yesterday exhibited the same exact traits as Raul. Seeing this in an area called the graveyard makes me Remember that God is everywhere and that where two or more gather he is there also. So what can you do to help? well you can pray, pray for the missionarie, the pastors, and most of all pray for the people and families here.
What’s next? Well I got exciting news today, we are going to start preparing for a project called the new testament project. What will this Consist of? Well we are going to write a testimony in a staggering amount of bibles in English at the bottom of this in Romanian it will say “To have this translated call this number.” Doing this will connect with people and have them connect back with the church.
