An expression used in the islands to say “until we meet again.” There is so much depth in those words as it means the endless possibility of ‘hellos’ and reflects the strong bond you’ll hold – no matter the distance. I’ve bid friends ‘a hui hou’ a number of times before. But as I stood at that airport with my 70 liter pack tightly buckled on my back and watched as friends approached me with the sweetest scented leis Hawai’i has to offer, I knew this was different… it was my turn. It’s crazy to think that I had left home only 2 weeks ago because so much has happened since.

I first attended Launch, which is that anticipated time where all World Racers gather in Atlanta, GA for final training before we “launch” into the places God calls us. My squad consists of about 40 people and within that is my team of six amazing women, whom I’ll introduce later in this post. Launch lasted 3 days and after allowing that anxious feeling of “Whoa, THIS. IS. IT.” sort of sink in, we were off! We spent an approximate 48 hours of traveling on 4 different flights, but we finally reached our first destination — Phnom Penh Cambodia!!! (Thank God for international flights with complimentary movies and comfy seats, just sayin)

From the moment God called me onto the Race, which was 11 months ago, I have felt every possible emotion. I have felt uncertainty, doubt, fear, and of course sadness. However, when I stepped out of Cambodia’s airport and felt a gush of hot steam hit me.. this indescribable peace of knowing that God had me exactly where I was supposed to be also filled me. Joshua 1:9 reminds me, “Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

“A hui hou” they said. And at first I thought I was saddened because I had left a piece of my heart at home. Reflecting on it now, I realize I am actually taking home to every country, every city, and every province I go to. I’m ecstatic to witness the ways God will move this year! Stay tuned as I’ll be sharing some of my first experiences in Cambodia in my next post.

Lastly, I would like to introduce my lovely team, the CONQUERORS. From right to left is — Emily, Lynda, Becky, Ana, Natalie, and myself. We’ll all be sharing different ministry blogs from this month so if you have the time, check out their blogs! I am amazed by how God calls people of different backgrounds and perfectly knits them together to further His kingdom. Please include us in your prayers:)
