I may not be Julia Roberts in a Hollywood film but the movie title definitely describes my life this month! I had no idea what to expect from Malaysia. It was the only country I wouldn’t have been upset about if our route changed, simply because I didn’t know anything about it. Well I have been pleasantly surprised! This country has quickly become one of my favorites and will be hard to beat.
The friendliness and hospitality we have received while being here has been such a blessing. I have never eaten so much in my entire life. Seriously. I could probably live without eating until I got home. My personal favorite would have to be Roti Canai and Iced Milo. For those of you who know what that is, I realize it’s the most “American” Malaysian food you can get, but it’s still my favorite. If you don’t know what it is, look it up, it’s awesome. Most families have worked very hard to prepare home cooked meals for us, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and we are so thankful. We haven’t had to use hardly any of our team money on food. I’m not sure I can fit any more rice in my body and fish curry is not my favorite. But some of the homes we’ve gone to have surprised us with Pizza Hut, KFC or both! One house even had an array of sugary goodness; gourmet donuts, ice cream and homemade Malaysian deserts…delicious!
My prayer life has definitely gone up a notch. Going to multiple houses a day for the month and being asked to pray before we left each home. My team and I have prayed for an ACL injury, chronic headaches, a 10 year old boy suffering the effects of H1N1, marriages to be restored, a 5 year old boy with a brain tumor, blood disease, a lady who randomly gets possessed by her dead twin sister and we’ve seen miracles happen almost every day. Yeah…it’s been a busy month!
All of this is for love, but there’s no way our natural ability to love could do anything. It’s God’s love through us that is bringing life, joy, peace and blessings to these families. It has been an amazing month and I almost feel more loved by the Malaysian people than what I’ve given out.
