Our world has a very skewed definition of love.
We love pizza.
Love the new movie that just came out. Love our dog.
Love our husbands, wives or kids.
Love video games.
Love God.
Love sleep.
Love the beach.
Love music, or maybe sports.
Love. Love. Love.
Some of the women I’ve talked to this month are working at the bars because they think it’s the best place to find a man, which equals love. As crazy as you or I may think that is, it’s what they believe. That some knight in shining armor who’s in Thailand for spring break is going to come, sweep them off their feet and whisk them away to Australia, or England, or the US. A few of them have seen it happen with their sisters, friends and co-workers so it gives them hope. They so desperately want to fall in love, and be loved, but they have no idea what that even looks like.
I think a lot of people confuse love with lust. Both are emotions that we feel but they are two very different things. The bar scene on Bangla Road is filled with lust. The definition of lust, to be blunt, is “an emotional force that arises from the psychological action of thinking or fantasizing about sex.” It is not love.
Love is patient.
Kind.
It does not envy or boast.
It is not proud.
It does not dishonor others.
Not self-seeking.
Not easily angered.
Keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil.
It rejoices with the truth.
Always protects.
Always trusts.
Always hopes.
Always perseveres.
Love never fails.
So if there’s anyone reading this who is looking for love; trying to buy it, or force something. Maybe you’ve even given up on love altogether. Just stop. The Creator of the universe is IN love with YOU. I know it may be weird to think about, but I dare you to try. Once you realize His love for you, other things pale in comparison. Open the Bible collecting dust on your shelf. Start talking to Him. It doesn’t have to be a well rehearsed, thought out prayer. If you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you. I guarantee it.
