Travel days are an adventure. We left Panajachel, Guatemala at 6am November
2 and arrived on Ometepe Island, Nicaragua at 10am November 5. It was a long few days! 4 countries in 48 hours including a 14 hour
bus ride, witnessing a drug bust, sleeping on a barge with Nicaraguan sailors
who decided not to wear shirts and almost being attacked by tree monkeys (good
thing they were chained). So team
lovebound has arrived and we have the privilege of working with another team,
Pneuma. There are 14 of us invading
Ometepe this month!
lovebound at Wendy’s in San Salvador!
Ometepe is an isolated island community
located in the middle of Lake Nicaragua.
We are working with Cicrin Children’s Home. Their vision is to provide a home of
Christian love and support, proper clothing, food, education and living care
(including medical and dental care), a safe environment (physically,
emotionally, spiritually), an education and vocational path to allow them to
learn valuable trades (and attend a Nicaraguan university if they have the
ability and aspirations), and an exit strategy which allows them to become
independent and contributing members of Nicaraguan society. There are currently 18 kids from age 2 to 23
years old and hopefully 5 more kids will be added while we are here.
Breakfast every morning is at 7am and
then we’re off to work. There’s
construction on a house, chores around the children’s home, farming and
throwing rocks to form a type of dam for the lake water not to come up too
far. We only work until lunch time
because it gets so hot, and humid. The
kids get out of school around 3pm so the evenings are spent hanging out with
them.
Lake Ometepe (one of the biggest in the world!)
I feel like I was finally adjusted to
life in Guatemala and now we’ve moved on.
I know that’s the whole idea of the World Race but it’s still hard to
constantly live in transition. Also,
goodbyes are not my favorite but I have to get used to it since I have 10 more
countries to go! I’m not quite sure how
I like being here at the moment but I trust God and know that He has a great
plan for this month so that makes me excited!
