Saturday after getting settled in Cali, my team and I walked through town looking for a grocery store. We passed by a group of people sitting around a table on their porch playing a game so we thought to ask them where was the closet grocery store. They told us which direction to go, we thanked them and went on our merry way as we were hungry for food and not fellowship. After we returned back to the Hostel we all felt a tug to go back and visit the people that helped us but it was too late.

Sunday came and we headed to the grocery store again. We were so please to see the same group of people sitting outside playing another round. This time, we decided to stop and play. We greeted them as our friends and asked them what they were playing. The owner of the house offered his spot in the game to one of the guys on my team and invited him to play. Not knowing what the game was, we dived right into the challenge. It didn’t take long for them to welcome us as if we had known them all along. They shared with us that they made ice cream out of their home and gave each one of us free ice cream and told us a little about  their family history of living of living here in Cali, Colombia. We sat with them for about an hour until the game finished and shared plenty of laughs.

Monday, one of the men sitting on the porch named, Harry, offered to take my team out for a hike to “Cristo Rey” (a famous monument of Jesus overlooking the city of Cali, Colombia). We accepted his offer per having n other plans. During our time out he told us all about the city and warned us of the dangers that are right around the corner.  We treated him to pizza at the end of the night before we went back to the hotel.

None of our interactions with the family or with Harry involved us preaching. Sharing the gospel is a simple as relationship building – the fundamentals of having a Kingdom mindset.
