1 AGENDA: LOVE
1 Agenda: To â¤ God and People – (Gypsies, Orphans, Widows, Prostitutes, Innocent Girls forced into Sex Trafficking, and the Sick, Hungry, Broken and Lost) – through Service and Presence
Yup, it's true – I love me some Jesus! No, wait, I LOVE ME SOME JESUS!
So, what exactly does that mean? Wondering if I go around trying to beat people over the head with a huge Bible (don't tempt me, my Bible actually is rather large)? 😉 What it means is that I follow Christ. That is, I follow His teachings, especially those about loving others and caring for the poor (well, I should say that I try to follow His teachings).
To be quite honest, for many years, I was a Christian – but perhaps the worst kind. I was the kind that "believed" but didn't actually go to church. I was the kind that prayed to God when things weren't going so well… yet I gave nothing back to Him. And worse… I was completely comfortable in my apathy and selfishness. I was one of those Christians who gave Jesus (and Christianity) a bad name. But then everything changed, and though I can't completely explain it right here, right now, what I can tell you is that everything changed for the better (thank you, God!).
There's a vast difference between having faith and living by faith – as a follower of Christ.
A follower of Christ seeks to die to his/her own desires and selfishness. A follower takes action to become more like Christ while becoming increasingly aware of their inability to so apart from God's help. A follower seeks to love people the way Christ did – to love all people: prostitutes, "losers", sinners, the poor, the lost, the sick and the broken.
Since Jesus was all about LOVE, that's become my agenda: to love as many people as I can through service and physical presence (through God's strength and grace). And though there are many opportunities to love people here in the United States, few people will step outside of their comfort zone – beyond this country – to spread love and support to those who desperately need it in some of the darkest parts of the World.
So, as God has given me faith, courage and a true heart's desire for serving and loving those who cannot help themselves, I'm leaving all that I know, all that I love here and am embarking on a new venture with 1 agenda: to love people through service and presence. That's it – it's that simple.
11 countries, 11 months, 1 agenda – and an amazing opportunity to play a tiny role in the greatest LOVE story ever. A chance to spread (God's) love around the World. That's what following Christ is for me — trying to love like Christ.
I'm deeply honored to be a part of the great things God is doing around the World. And quite frankly, I'm undeserving of the role I have; it's quite humbling to be sent out as an Ambassador of Christ. Yet, I pray as I step out, God gives me the humility, strength, courage, wisdom, peace and strength to love others in a way that inspires hope even in the darkest of places.
"The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." Galatians 5:6
