One of the things we have done while in Thailand is help teach English in a couple schools. One school in particular does not have enough teachers. The children get dressed in their uniforms and show up to school, just to attend class where they are left to fend for themselves. They have no supervision or guidance. No one that instructs or helps them. They are left unattended to run in and out of class, play on the playground, etc… Cindy, our contact, told us that the parents send their kids to school because it is free babysitting and free lunch.
In one class room, I went into help, the kids ran up to me and gave me a hug! They were so excited to have someone pay attention to them and spend time with them!
