My squad and I have arrived safely to our home in Quito, Ecuador. The leadership team and the racers together is a total of 48 people, and we are all living in a house together. I share a room with all 9 girls on my team. It is an adjustment to step into such an instant community, a learning experience to adapt not only to the culture of Ecuador but also the culture of the World Race.
It is change. It’s hard, and it’s good. I am thankful.
A few days ago my team and I had our first day at our ministry site, and met our ministry host. It is so special to meet someone and instantly recognize that the same God you love lives inside of them. There is a sense of belonging and comfort in the midst of a new environment. We will partner with this ministry for the entirety of our two months here, taking a bus Sunday-Thursday. This morning we served in their feeding program, providing a home cooked meal for members of the community to experience the tangible love of Christ through being welcomed and being fed. Along with the feeding program that happens twice a week, we will serve with our ministry by doing construction, outreach/evangelism, kids ministry, and helping take care of the place God provided for this organization to thrive.
