Here is a list of some things I had never done prior to July 19th, 2014.

– Pitch a tent

– Sleep in a tent

– Cook over a fire

– Sleep outside

– Sleep with bugs

– Take a bucket shower

– Hike with 50 pounds of gear

– Use a mess kit (Actually, I didn’t even know what a mess kit was)

I now have the confidence to say, that after a week of World Race Training Camp, I can successfully pitch a tent and sleep in it, I can cook over a fire using a mess kit, I can sleep outside with bugs (but let’s be honest, that’s still a little bit difficult) and I can efficiently take a bucket shower.

This past week has been so crazy, good crazy. I was challenged on so many levels and I am happy to say, that I am changed for the better because of it. Now if you know me, you know that I like shopping, perfume, make up, and nail polish amongst other girly things. This week, all of that was thrown out of the window. I no longer had the luxury of things that I thought made me comfortable. The thought of taking a shower whenever I wanted became a fantasy, as well as sleeping in a comfy bed and doing my hair. At first I was asking myself how the heck I was going to do this for a week, let alone a year. But as the days past I began to realize that my strength and comfort couldn’t come from things of this earth, but from Christ alone. As I started to peel back the layers of what holds me back, I started to find little ribbons of Christ woven throughout my being that were my source of strength. Although a week might sound like a superficial amount of time, this week, this specific week, has prepared me for the journey I’m about to take.

Christ is my rock, my strength, my comforter, my everything. I am blessed beyond measure and I am excited to start this next 11 months of my life knowing that I am in His will.
