We went to the orphanage today. We didn’t have a lot of time with our schedule, but we plan on going back next week. I was talking to Cara on one of our runs about three or four days ago about Matthew, the boy with cerebral palsy that I’ve worked with about six years and whose family has become my second family. I shared with Cara that working with Matthew is such a joy, honor, and blessing and that I am able to see Christ in him which really warms my heart. That night, I dreamt about Matt – I don’t really know what was going on but he was so happy and it was great to be with him. Normally when I dream about Matt it means that it has been too long since I’ve last seen him and that I am due for my Matt fix. In that regard, this is going to be a long 11 months.
So we show up at the orphanage. We brought tostados and juice and handed them out to the children. Really all I could say in Spanish to them for that part was “Quieres?” (do you want it?) and “mas?” (more?). Every time I tried to speak Spanish the kids looked at me and giggled. Soon they were saying it too “quieres? mas? hahaha.” We had one of the loads of clothing from the night before at Paul’s so we sat throught it and sorted out the children’s clothes. Even with like 8 of us doing it, it still took about 2 hours. So we brought those clothes in for them and helped them pick out the clothing they wanted. It was a lot of fun and something we could do despite limited communication.
Then they brought out a little boy with cerebral palsy! I haven’t seen anyone with cerebral palsy in Guatemala yet, but I got to see this little boy who was about Matt’s age. God is so good. I miss my Matt but God is good. I’m excited for when we go back to the orphanage.
