3/10/11

Hello Dear Readers,
I pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to you through this blog.
My heart yearns for the homeless and for addicts. We did a prayer walk the other day and it was an interesting experience. We were able to see the beauty of Penang. I mentioned in a previous blog that Malaysia is a mix of cultures and it is also a mix of religions.
In our last hostle (we moved because we found a cheaper one) there was an arrow on the ceiling pointing toward Mecca for the Muslims to know in which direction to pray. Also within a couple block radius you will come across an Islamic mosque, a Buddhist temple, a Daoist temple, and a Christian church. People are pretty open to religious freedom here.
Last night was one of my favorite nights of ministry thus far on the Race.
We did another prayer walk or “street church” – I think that’s what YWAM calls it. We partnered with the local YWAM and other missionaries here. We walked around in smaller groups praying for the area and reaching out to others.
We saw swanky newer parts of town and historic older parts of town and saw people of all sizes, shapes and colors. We ended up at this grassy triangle area where several of the roads converge.
There was a man greeting us loudly, we found out he was so boisterous because he had a few drinks that night.
Greg and I went up to him and had a good conversation, and made a new friend. Morgan showed us pictures of himself in his much younger days when he was in the Malaysian army and reminded us several times that he is still a strong man. He became embarassed when he realized that we realized he was drunk. He would forget what was talking about and once he realized the alcohol on his breath was apparent he put his hand over his mouth in an attempt to mask the smell.
He asked why we were here and we told him that we were helping out at Kawan
(which I recently learned means “friend”). Morgan was very aware of what went on at Kawan (the drop-in center that provides food to the homeless).
We told him we were here because of the love of Jesus Christ and Morgan became very quiet. He started to cry a little and wiped a tear away. The rest of the group was starting to wrap up so we asked if we could pray for him. He said yes and then did the sign of the cross with his hand.
Greg worked at Kawan today and said that Morgan showed up briefly. I wonder if he’ll show up Monday when I work so I can have a chat with him, I wonder if I’ll ever see him again…
I have been thinking about possibly going back and getting a certificate in addiction studies and the more and more I spend time with individuals with addictions the more I want to continue doing that. I am not sure in what capacity, or where, but I have plenty of time to pray about that.
