Have you ever been desperately cold?
So cold that you would do anything to get warm?
Like, I had on all my clothes, fell through a frozen lake and now I’m going to die kind of cold.
You would do anything in that moment to get warm. ANYTHING. You would shed any dignity you had, rip off your wet clothes and do anything you could to start a fire. So now you’re standing naked next to a fire, but the fire is too small. You begin to find anything you can find to stoke the fire. Anything to make the fire grow. Anything to get warm. Desperation is at an all time high. You look again. All you can see are things that have sentimental value, things that are valued, things that you hold dear. Family photos, baby pictures, homemade Christmas ornaments… etc.
So now you’re naked, freezing cold, soaking wet, and standing next to a small fire trying your best to get warm with an armful of sentimental items that you could burn.
What do you do?
Our entire lives are spent contemplating our future plans. We desperately want to be in control. We want things to go our way. We want to be happy…
But what happens the day you fall through the ice?
The day comes when nothing makes sense and your well thought out future seems to be crumbling all around you. There you stand, next to the proverbial fire of life, and in your arms are all of your precious plans. You can dump them in the fire and live, or stand there doing nothing—paralyzed by fear, and die.
Watch them burn!
You’re never freer than the moment you surrender everything. As your hands let go of your plans, everything you thought you held dear, your heart desperately reaches out for the thing that matters! Your life is wholly His. He plans your future. He is in control. He warms you when you fall through the ice.
His plans are good. He is for you. He can be trusted with your plans. If you can trust Him with your salvation then you can trust Him with your life.
Surrendered! What next?
Why not take a risk? If your life is truly in His hands, then if you fall He will catch you! Why not invest in something that has eternal impact? Why not give money to a worthwhile cause? Why not fall in love with a stranger? Why don’t you quit your job, leave your friends and family, and travel the world for 11 months sharing about the Father’s love everywhere you go? Why Not? When you realize that God has your back, should it even be considered a risk anymore? The ice is thick… So take a little walk and don’t look back!
