For our month of ministry in Cambodia, we traveled to the city of Kampong Cham to teach English and do medical missions.  For most of the race, we are totally under the control of the local transportation provided by our contacts, but this month, we rented bikes.  It was amazing, and it may sound silly, but being able to go somewhere at any time was so freeing.  Also, when all seven of us were riding together, we looked like a really ridiculous (and not very intimidating) biker gang.  Observe.

Yeah, I know we’re cool. 😉

Our ministry was primarily teaching English to University students in the area.  We worked at a center that provided four different levels of English learning for $1 per quarter.  The vast majority of students are not Christians, so the ladies that run the center use the English lessons as a ministry tool and already several students have come to know the Lord through their ministry.  The ladies warned us from the beginning to be very careful how we introduced the gospel or Jesus because the center must maintain its legitimacy with the government as a teaching center, not a propaganda center.  We were really careful as a result, but I still got the chance to talk about Jesus (one girl had never heard of him before!) and pray over my class.  I feel so great about leaving though because I know that the ladies running the center are going to continue watering the seeds we planted.

One of the coolest things that we got to do is write a textbook for the center.  The ladies asked us to compile a textbook comparing and contrasting Western and Eastern culture using Bible stories as examples.  We did it and at the end of the month, we found out that the ladies had been so worried about it for months and had prayed that the Lord would provide a book somehow.  We finished the book two days before they needed it.  Once again, the World Race has provided the most random ministry.  This year, I’ve preached, evangelized, done a radio show, cared for animals, built stuff, torn stuff down, washed kids, washed kids’ hair, cleaned off spraypaint, played guitar, sang, played soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball, driven cars on both sides of the road, dug holes, filled holes in, and now I’m a textbook writer.  God is awesome, you’ll never know what he’ll have you do…

More to come!
