We are kicking off week two on the continent of Africa, and it has been such a sweet surprise.
I was a little apprehensive leaving South America- a place that had totally stolen my heart- and traveling thousands of miles to a brand-new place so unfamiliar to me.
Upon arriving, we were greeted with the sweetest men- our hosts and since we have had nothing short of joyous encounters.
We have been working on Pastor Innocent’s church doing all sorts of things. The government has closed the church until the renovations taking place have been completed- so this includes painting, digging, carrying rocks and sorting through them, putting in cement, and planting grass!
Here is a peek of all the things-
This is our host, Pastor Innocent. He refers to himself as “Dad Africa” and he refers to me as “booger” so that’s fun.
Here is one of the workers, the father of a little friend who visits us often. The men that we are working with are all so sweet, hard-working, patient, and really great teachers.
This is Catie Collins and I planting grass, which is essentially us replanting weeds that were previously dug up from the grounds, using wooden sticks to poke holes into the ground so that we don’t cut our hands on all of the broken glass that is on the ground
Paige and I carrying gravel up to the house using an old tarp sack.
These are some of our neighbors who greet us every day with, “umuzungu,” (white person) as we work and walk around the village.
This is the “graduation ceremony” from the “Church-school” ran by our “Mama Africa.”
All of the children who attend the school are too young to be in primary school but needed something to do to keep them off of the streets. While they are at school, their mothers have the opportunity to work and make money in order to provide for the family.
Lastly, here is a picture of my sweet new team! I have LOVED living and working alongside these ladies!
Also- Shoutout to SBG for some of these pics- she is truly gifted 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to see what I am up to!
Xoxo
