God has been teaching me a lot about how to look at ourselves and more importantly how he views us. I shared this with my team a couple nights ago but I knew God was asking me to write a blog about it, so here you go!
We all feel insecure about our bodies and the things we see in others that we want for ourselves. However; when we think those thoughts we look at the masterpiece God created saying that its ugly, stupid, and worthless. This was the example God gave me:
When we draw something or we accomplish a great task we want people to notice and tell us how beautiful is it or what an incredible job we did. In the same way God sees us and he sees the gorgeous piece of artwork he crafted and he wants us to see it in the same light. He wants us to look at our bodies thinking of what an amazing accomplishment it is. Being able to breath, walk, talk, and everything else our bodies do everyday is an accomplishment. Satan puts thoughts into our heads like, if only I was skinnier, if only I had a different body shape or nose, or whatever you dislike about your body and struggle with wanting because those are thoughts of death. Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy so he will stop at nothing to do those things. All he wants to do is mess up Gods artwork.
God gave me a picture of my body painted onto a canvas. He told me that satan would start with a simple dot in the middle of the canvas. Although it doesn’t seem like a big deal if that dot isn’t taken care of it gives it room to spread. Every hurtful comment or painful thought makes that dot grow and by the time you realize it the whole thing is covered in hate. The artwork that God worked so hard on is covered up by darkness which in the bible can also be viewed as death.
Words have a lot of power. We don’t think that they do because when said they can’t physically hurt us but if we let them take hold of our thoughts/mind it turns into an avenue to hurt our bodies. It may start with you looking at your body wanting to change it but in the end your mind is where the true battle is. Its where God has worked His hardest to create and where satan has worked his hardest to take over. God wants you to think of yourself as the masterpiece He sees you as, from your mind to your body. Your thoughts to your actions.
As you start to realize this and view yourself the way God views you that dot gets painted over. You aren’t same person underneath but that’s because you learned and fought for the person God painted over the darkness and thoughts of death. I’m not the same person I was when I started the race but that person didn’t see the masterpiece God created. The person I am now looks at the canvas and sees how much care and love went into crafting it. So look at the canvas that God made and tell Him how beautiful it is and how much you love it. It truly is an accomplishment.
