Hello Friends!
Abby here and I decided its finally time to share the good news I have and why I’m not just going straight to college! So here’s the reasoning (however logical it is :)) about how I decided to take a crazy 9 month mission trip outside my comfort zone.
Growing up, I always heard about some group of people doing amazing work for God in a remote, dirt poor area and how it radically changed their life and so many others. To me, those people were people who are naturally born to not have a worry or care in life, but to do as they felt called. Oh and also- God only wanted people like that to serve as a missionary. It never occurred to me that many, if not all of them were challenged and had to grow in so many ways to live the lifestyles Jesus was calling them to.
So when I heard about the gap year mission program a year ago, it never occurred to me then that I would one day be going on it! I loved reading the blogs and seeing pictures of the beautiful experiences and people that were being touched by this program. And God used that to keep it on my heart and never far from my prayers. As the months went on, I started feeling an urge from God in prayer to take a step of faith and apply. Not to make a huge change or anything, but to simply give him my YES. And to hold on to Him, no matter what happens.
Recently, I came across 1 Corinthians 1:27-29. Basically it is summed up as “God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.” This has been a huge source of hope and peace to me, as I prepare for the coming months and years ahead. He will teach us if we let him, and since we owe everything to Him, why wouldn’t we??
So a year later, after many prayers, worries and joys, here I am, ready to keep saying my yes to God!
I can’t wait to share this amazing adventure God has called me on with you!!
In Christ, Abby

P.S.- This is not just a journey of me spreading the kingdom of God on my own, Jesus is calling all of us help in some way. So I ask that if you feel called to invest whatever you can in His kingdom, please do! Whether that is a donation to help me reach my goal, or many, many prayers, both are so very much appreciated!!
