At launch, my squad mentor, Jeremy, told us all a story about a month on his World Race where his team was deemed a “drama team” and was shuffled around from place to place to perform christian dramas for people. We all had a good laugh about it and after his talk, he jokingly said he was going to pray for us all to be drama teams at one point.
God hears your prayers, Jer.
Team Lighthouse is a drama team! And also a worship team. And a dance team.
My team was first deemed a worship team when we were (without warning) pulled up on stage at a church service to sing a (very fast) version of “Open the Eyes of My Heart” in English. We made sure to hold the microphone extremely far away from us.
My ministry host, Mireya, has been working on teaching me and my teammates dances and a skit to perform at different churches and for the people in her community.
Yesterday, we got a chance to test out our skills! We traveled to Mireya’s friends church about 1.5 hours away from hers to have church with them. We got to meet the people who attended the church and worship with them and pray over them. After the “normal” church service, it was our time to shine! We performed 2 dances and a skit for them and (I think/hope) they loved it! One of the dances involved meowing and woofing, so you can let your imagination go wild with that.
Our next performance was at a community fiesta! We performed our two dances and our skit and then got caught in a thunderstorm so we ran back to Mireya’s church. There’s never a dull moment around here.
Yes, that’s Mireya dressed as a clown.
I’m learning that every day on the race is an opportunity to take a new step of faith and humble myself before The Lord. I hate being in front of people, but if that’s what it takes for people in this city to know Jesus then I’ll be a dancer, I’ll be an actress, and I’ll be a singer. No feeling of embarrassment could ever compare to the feeling of seeing people come to the altar after a call to give their lives to Christ or the feeling of seeing a smile on a kids face as you dance with them.
Please join me and my team in prayer over the people of Mireya’s community. There’s a lot of gang activity, drugs, addiction, and poverty that grips many people here. Pray for them to experience the true freedom that only Christ can bring. And that they would see Jesus in us while we’re here with them.
