I have have been participating in a 6 week social media fast, so I haven’t been able to give many updates about my adventures here in El Salvador! Here are just a few of the amazing places I’ve gotten to explore with my team.

Puerta Del Diablo

Our ministry host took us to hike this mountain yesterday! It usually has an amazing view of San Salvador below it, but the Lord blessed us with a mist so thick you couldn’t see through it! It looks like we were sitting on clouds. After we hiked down we got to enjoy a corn festival going on at the base of the mountain. We tried a corn drink, corn cakes, and crazy corn (grilled corn smothered in mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, and soy sauce.) You can take a guess at which one of them I liked.

La Casa de Abuela

This is one of my FAVORITE spots we’ve visited. I’m a coffee shop fanatic and I’ve been craving that type of environment since I left home. The Lord knew I needed this place! I got to shop at the artisan store connected to the coffee shop, use the wifi to FaceTime a friend and update her on life on the field, hear some American music, and ordered my favorite coffee drink.

We we took a boat to an island in the middle of a giant, beautiful blue lake! I was expecting to get sea sick (if you know me you know that I struggle hard with motion sickness) but the boat was super slow so I was safe! We had lots of fun talking about how deep the lake was and asking our boat driver questions about the area.

When we got to the island we were able to go swimming! We wanted to swim around the whole island but we were stopped by fear of getting trapped in yucky seaweed! (Ryan actually did get trapped in it.)

Our first adventure day! We went to a beautiful natural pool. The water was the bluest I’ve ever seen. There were tiny fish that gave you a pedicure in the shallows. We had a great time jumping in and taking under water videos and pictures with Samuel, our ministry hosts son.

The pool looked like a scene from Pandora!

We visited one of the many volcanoes that surround the city of San Salvador. That tiny circle you see at the bottom is the mouth of the volcano where lava used to shoot out!

This was one of the most special places our team visited. Our team name is “Lighthouse” and our goal is to shine the light of Jesus into the darkest places in the world. Seeing the lighthouse here was a confirmation from the Lord that we were in the right place, doing what we’vet been called to do.

Every day in El Salvador is an adventure, wether or not it’s an adventure day. Team lighthouse treats every day as an adventure with Jesus, an opportunity to learn something new, grow, and press into the deeper places of God and community. We love exploring El Salvador, but we love exploring what God has for us even more.

We have tons of ministry opportunities here, so keep my team and I in your prayers as we continue to preach, teach English, dance, sing, and serve the Lord.

Sending love from El Salvador!!!!
