We cleared the jungle. We mixed the concrete. We laid the foundation. We collected materials. We painted. We nailed. We sawed. We sweat. We bled (only a little). We prayed. We worshiped. Now a grandmother and her grandson have a new bright blue home to live in.
The past few weeks have brought a lot of manual labor with the building of this house, but it has been a true honor to put on the same gross work pants every day and show up with joy alongside Gap C to make this house happen.
Before I go on, I must state the obvious. It’s month 9 of the Race. 27 days left and I’ve never loved life with a group of people more. A song that has started to be played more and more recently is “Leave This House Singing” to which we all respond “NOO” because we don’t want to think about the end. The main chorus says:
I wanna leave this house singing
I wanna go from here
Believing in your love.
We left the little blue house we built singing and we will live the house of Gap C singing. What does it mean to leave singing? It means knowing you’ve poured yourself out completely. It means leaving nothing behind. It means having your heart in the home you’re leaving and nonetheless leaving in joy. It means that because you’ve given your all, you are encouraged and lifted in love to step into what’s next. Leaving singing means that rather than being torn apart at a crossroads you are spurred on by it.
We’ve all built “houses” in our walks of life. What are houses you have built and have the opportunity to sing out of? How can we be a people that choose to press into temporary things knowing the eternal joy that is ours?
Let us press on. Let us run with endurance.
With love,
Abs
P.S. THANK YOU for all your prayers and love. it is truly get from all these miles away! Gap C has seen so much light this past week (literally and metaphorically) and we will continue to walk in it!
