My squad an I left our campground for the first time in a month to do ministry in DeQuincy, Louisiana! You best believe we stormed Kroger hard, but God stormed DeQuincy even harder.
We slept on church floors in our cozy sleeping bags and feasted on some good southern cooking. It was such a blessing to partner with Samaritan’s Purse. We got to bond with and be mentored by a few of their volunteers while also breathing some new life into them. After our first week there our crew had to evacuate to Texas while another hurricane passed. After a few days of rest in Dallas, we had the incredible opportunity to go back to Louisiana. Hearts were even more open after another round in the hurricane ring and we got to build on already established relationships. It certainly wasn’t what any of us had planned, but He works all things for good.
The days started early and were spent tarping roofs, raking leaves, cutting trees, moving logs, picking up trash, and most importantly listening to homeowners. While we were there to do manual labor, our main focus was on the hearts of the people there. Any time we could, we would break off and seek out the homeowner to talk about Jesus and simply listen. Then, at the end of every house project we would present the homeowner with a Bible and pray over them.
I wish y’all could meet these lovely people of Louisiana. We had church in driveways, we hugged, we prayed, we listened, we laughed, and we ate gumbo. If I wrote every story from this past week my fingers would be numb and my phone storage full, but I would love to talk with any of y’all and share more! The Father is working in big and little ways and in so many hearts.
We are back in Georgia to do some local ministry and continue learning! Stay tuned and check out my squadmates’ blogs!
