So far the World Race has been full of a lot of surprises. Before leaving for launch my team was going to be going to either Zimbabwe or Botswana. I didn't know exactly which country I would be in, but I was totally ok with that, we would find out eventually.
At launch we hear that our team may be spread out over 4 different countries, adding South Africa and Zambia to the list of possibilities. I honestly didn't really want to be in South Africa, because we are going to be there month 2. However, when our locations were announced I found out that my team would be in Johannesburg, South Africa serving at a soccer ministry for kids along with 3 other teams. I was super excited about this and the fact that we would be in South Africa for 2 months didn't really bother me any more.
Once we arrived in South Africa the whole squad spent a few days at the location we would be staying at in South Africa for rest and community. It was a wonderful few days and we were blessed with amazing accommodations, delicious food, and awesome fellowship. I was also excited that jet lag didn't seem to effect me much at all!
Slowly teams started leaving for their ministry sites in Zambia and Zimbabwe until only the four teams were left. Then we found out that there wasn't really anything for us to do for the month at that location, so we were also leaving. The next day we boarded a bus and headed about an hour away to Pretoria, South Africa, thankfully where we will stay for the rest of the month!
We are serving at a ministry called Popup. It is a center that empowers the participants through life skills to be able to be better providers for themselves and their families. They also have a children's program where they provide a Christian based daycare for children aged 0-5 and many other programs. It is an amazing God centered organization and we all know that we are exactly where God wants us to be.
I am going to be serving with the sewing department here. They are women who have already been through the program and are now employed at Popup. I am excited for the opportunity to get to know these women and some of their stories. I am also excited to just pour love and encouragement on them because we have found that is something that they do not often receive. Hopefully I will be able to tell you some of their stories!
So, after so many surprises, I am exactly where God wants me to be and I am so excited to see how He works these next 2 weeks!
