Month 1 of the World Race has been amazing so far!
God is doing amazing things here in China. Although we are serving in a closed country, we have experienced the presence of God in so many ways. Our whole team has noticed how much of an OASIS our volunteer location is, in the middle of a very dry culture spiritually. The people are so special here– friendly and curious whenever we shop in the village or eat at a restaurant. I have learned so much from this new culture, and it is such a gift to be able to interact with the Chinese people on a daily basis.
Since arriving to our volunteer location, our team has partnered with the all-girls team from our squad. We have been serving in the foster care home just outside Beijing. Our two teams are split into smaller groups for a variety of different jobs this past month.
One of my jobs was tutoring math to one very bright girl. She actually reminded me of myself when I was her age, and believe it or not, I learned a few things from her while working with her the past few weeks. I was also in a group that helped with work projects in the foster home and organized fun activities for children in the community. Some people in our group taught in a pre-school, and others cared for younger children in the foster care home.
It has been such a privilege serving here at this place that cares for children in such a special way. Also, since becoming more aware of so many different needs with the children, I have experienced greater energy to pray and see God move in so many different situations.
Going forward, I am so excited to see what God has planned on the next 10 months of my Race, and I am so grateful for what He has done so far. Through my incredible teammates and this opportunity to serve, God has helped me grow more into myself and more in my confidence with others. The Race is uncomfortable at times, but what God is doing here is worth it every time.
