Last week I went to Houston for the Arkansas Razorbacks bowl game against the Texas Longhorns. It was an amazing trip for me and for my family and Arkansas won. Woohoo! I don’t want to talk about that though, I waby to talk about the moment a few hours before the game. We were staying in the Best Western about half a mile from the stadium so the plan was to walk so we wouldn’t have to pay for parking. As we were walking out of the parking lot of the hotel. A man comes up to me and you could tell he wasn’t well off with his torn suitcase and ripped cloths and a limp. He had a small woman with him in the same condition.
My cousins hesitated as he approached us. As they stopped, he started talking to me and explaining his situation. He had came to Houston from Phoenix to stay with family and his wife, the woman next to him, was three months pregnant. He started telling me how they were struggling to get by and he didn’t know how he was going to get food for his wife. As he continued telling their story, my cousins decided they wanted to drive because they were uncomfortable with the situation.
The man didn’t want me to hand him money, but just take him to a restaurant and buy him food. I told my cousins to go to the car and I would meet them after I got the man some food. We went to Pizza Hut and I got him a pizza and a couple of drinks. He thanked me and shook my hand.
The pressure of saying no was there and every part of my flesh tempted me too. But my heart couldn’t do it. If I were to turn this man and his wife away. I would be turning away Christ. I could have easily walked with my cousins to the car and just forgot about the man, but I just couldn’t do it. I may not see that man or his wife ever again, but I know I did the right thing by feeding him. If I am to feed the orphan and the widow in other countries, I also have to do it today while I’m here so I can truly be like Christ.
Keep Praying for me I continue raising funds. Whatever you can or have given is a blessing.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:35-40
