I just read that the January World Race squad was robbed at gunpoint two days ago at a hostel in Johannesburg, South Africa. Four or five men armed with pistols entered the hostel where twelve members of the team were staying, and forced them to lay on the ground on their faces. The whole ordeal lasted nearly twenty hectic minutes, while guns were pointed at people and threats were made. Cameras, computers, money, passports, and even clothes were stolen. God, however, never left the team. His hand was over each of His children throughout the entire ordeal. Not a single person was injured. Jesus made a beautiful promise to us, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand” (John 10:27-29).
I believe there are many ways in which God may lead Christians,
but I’m convinced that every believer will at some point face
suffering, hardship, and tribulation. The Lord allows us these trials
to keep us humble and dependent on him for our sustenance. In Matthew
5:11-12, Jesus reminds us, “Blessed
are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all
kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because
great is your reward in heaven.” Please keep the January team
and their families in your prayers as they seek God’s provision in the
upcoming weeks. My heart goes out to them. God bless.
