Sent Out: POP goes the…tire?

When we finally made it to Iringa Town, Tanzania, we were given two days worth of rest time after all the time we spent traveling. We all got acclimated to the cooler weather in the elevated town we are staying in and got clean with 'Mr. Freeze' level water. Seriously, the first shower I took felt as if icicles were being shot at me from Batman's enemy, Mr. Freeze.

Anyways, after those two days our contact, Pastor Jacobs, sent us out in two's and three's with a translator to different villages to preach the Gospel. We were told to take our sleeping bag, mosquito net, and a few clothes (the essentials) for the weekend (Thursday through Monday).

"And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two , and gave them power over unclean spirits." ~Mark 6:7

So, our group of thirteen got split up as follows:
Lindsay and Jessica

Emily and Rachel

Annalisa and Krystle

Ashley and Jacinda

Jake and Matt

and myself with the married couple Josh and Bri.

Pastor got Josh, Bri and I on a bus in Iringa Town, where we met Clara, our 17-year-old translator and proceeded on our journey to our destination. Neither of us knew where the destination was and we hunkered down on this five-seat abreast bus built for about sixty or seventy people, yet had about 120 to 130 people on it by the time we got to our home for the weekend.

It was quite the drive. We went up and through a mountain road, winding our way on this road along these beautiful mountains, until….POP!!!

"What was that?" I think I asked Josh.

"I think a tire popped."

The melody of 'POP goes the weasel', immediately began playing in my head as the bus found a safe place to stop on the road with room to work on the tires and everyone filed off. The view was gorgeous, beyond anything I could ever put into words, and as we got our bearings on the side of this mountain…sure enough, the inside tire on the back passenger side of the bus had POPPED something wicked. It was crazy!

The men who work on the bus proceeded to change the tire, and as the lug nuts got the final go-around for their tightening we got back on the bus and into our seats for another hour ride.

Stay tuned for the next edition of being 'Sent Out' like the disciples.
