A WHAT EGG?!?!

Imagine, if you will…

Saturday, youth ministry day with a three or four o'clock start time. We're split into teams…Ashley and I heading up Team Violet. Prepared to do a race through ten stations that our team of twenty-six kids must go through to earn purple smiley stickers to win.

Stations are diverse–from a mummy wrap to blowing candles out with your nose, yet one station stands out…the Eating Challenge.

Our team was the last to arrive at this station and quickly learned that we would be challenged not as a team, but as leaders. Yes, this eating challenge was for Ashley and I.

We walked up to the table and find a bowl with a coffee mug upside-down over the infamous food item of horror, which took me back to the food challenge of 'Survivor II' with D. and the youth group at First Presbyterian Church of Eustis (around 2002). Only this is worse….

The coffee mug is removed and what do Ashley and I find, but a…

Balut Egg

(or for those who don't know, a duck or chicken egg that is partly developed).

You can imagion my face and probably even the words racing through my head, "Oh no, oh no, why this? Help! Escape, must turn invisible!"

I look to Ashley, both of us in disbelief and what do we do…

…We do what any good RockStars do and half the Balut egg, dip it in salt, and go for it. I can tell you that my brain was screaming no the whole time; however, I had a team of kids to honor….

So, we got our sticker and went from there! Crazy I know! Of course, to be honest, it wasn't that bad with all the salt–I've tasted worse things!!

This is the list of the kids on our team…please pray for them: Rachell, Andy, Carlo, Joycel, Jaybe, Pemarri, Ana Joy, Alvin, Carla, Maylyn, Mary Jane, Pinky, Belen, Rona, Dave, Kristine Joy, Dyna, Regie, Sheryl, Maricar, Mariam, Benny Rare, Xyron, Wikron, Hanna, April!

Each of these kids are amazing and they were very encouraging to me, especially when I had to eat the Balut egg! Awesome!!
