Hello again!
I want to share here who I am so you can get to know me better personally.
So lets start with the beginning: I was born in Fall River, Massachusetts to a wonderful mother and father and eventually, my sister! I spent the first couple years of my life in our house on the Taunton River until we moved to Cape Cod where I live now. When we moved on the Cape we found a quaint Congregational Church. It is home to one of Paul Revere’s bells (It is still rung every hour) and Katherine Lee Bates’ (author of “America the Beautiful”) father who was a minister at our Church in the mid 1800’s. Ironically, we unknowingly sat in the pew that actually belonged to the Bate’s family until our church put a plaque there that described our small Church’s claim to fame. As you can tell, I love my church and I am a very involved member, I even made a stewardship speech to our entire church last fall.
Some of my interests are sailing, horseback riding, history and Spanish. I have grown up sailing during the summers since Cape Cod is such a beautiful place for boating. From a young age sailing taught me patience and flexibility since the ocean is so unpredictable and you have to adjust for the conditions. For years I raced competitively, placing highly in races sailing Opti’s and 420’s. Last summer, my father took our family on a special 3 week sailing trip from the Cape to Bar Harbor in Maine and I had such a great time! I spent a lot of time with my family and I got to experience God’s beautiful creation. This whole experience gave me a different perspective on life, slowing down and appreciating the moment which is a stark contrast from our busy, goal orientated lives. Like sailing, I grew up horseback riding American Saddlebreds and Morgans on saddle seat (saddle seat is the type of riding I do). Horses gave me an appreciation and respect for animals since I spent time grooming and riding the horses. I used to ride competitively in shows when I was young, but now I simply enjoy taking lessons and spending time with the horses. I also love learning about history. Not only do I think it is important because it is our past, but I think it is critical that we learn from our past to advance into the future. Learning how ideas and figures have shaped society to where it is today fascinates me because it goes to the core of humanity. Lastly, I love Spanish because I enjoy talking to other people with different backgrounds and experiences. It also gives me so much confidence when I speak and understand what Spanish speakers are telling me. I know Spanish will come in handy on this mission trip and I am excited to incorporate Spanish into my faith. I am curious and I love to explore ideas to deepen my understanding of who I am and what God is calling me to do on His Earth.
Since this is a mission trip, I feel it is necessary to talk about my relationship with God. I believe in heaven, and that God sent his son, Jesus, to save us. I believe that everyone has a unique purpose that their soul will fulfill on Earth, but this must be found through our own freewill. I strongly believe that God gave us the power to choose who we become as a result of our own decisions. That is to say we would not make mistakes along the way, so that is why we ask God for forgiveness. In the same way, when we need help, we ask for God’s guidance. I think I am early in my faith journey and I hope to learn, grow and understand more about God on this mission trip.
I hope this “About Me” gave you a better understanding of who I am. I am very excited to be apart of this mission and I pray that we will launch in January. I appreciate everyone who is supporting me on this journey, thank you!
