Hey y’all! For this blog, I want to share what God has been teaching me these last few months, and how it has pushed me towards getting out of my comfort zone, (my cozy box of good ole “small town” Texas), taking a break from everything I’ve ever known from growing up in American culture, and joining World Race to experience something like I have never experienced before, in search of a new perspective, learning how to serve greatly, a deeper relationship with Jesus, as well as sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and being aware of His presence and what He speaks to me.
The Lord has been giving me more and more of an URGENCY.
God reminds me every day of how short this life is (James 4:14) and how the culture I grew up in focuses on, stresses, and obsesses over meaningless things. God tells us what to focus on in His word: “So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from Him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.” (Matthew 6:33 TPT) Francis Chan says in his book Crazy Love, “How could we think for even a second that something in this puny little earth compares to the creator and sustainer of it all?” ..It’s so true!.. God is giving me an aching desire for more of Him. Everything the world and culture tells us to chase in order to obtain happiness is NOTHING compared to a relationship with Jesus and what God has had planned for your life since before you were even born! ( Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:16 ) He is completely changing the desires that American culture has built into me ever since I was a kid, and he’s giving me new desires of simply needing nothing else but Him. The American dream is nowhere in the Bible. I want my desires to match up with Heavens. I want my definition of success to be God’s definition of success, not how the world tells me I can be successful. I desire to see the “greater things than these” Jesus spoke of in John 14:12. Would people know that we are christians just by looking at our lives without us telling them we are christians? Or do we blend in with the rest of the world and don’t do much outside of church on Sundays, and prayer before meals and before we go to sleep every night? Jesus wants an intimate relationship with each and every one of us. He desires our attention, our time, a surrendered life. “Nothing in this life matters unless its about loving God and loving people He has made.”
God has been making me even more aware of how good I have it here in my small town of Decatur Texas, just how good we have it in America, or any first world country. We can freely worship whenever we want! We can pray wherever and whenever we want to pray! We have the freedom to be christians, go to church, and read our bible! We forget how big of a blessing that is! There are people in other countries that aren’t allowed the same freedoms. There are people being killed, tortured, or thrown in prison because they love Jesus! People are being killed for reading the Word of God, or hiding bibles in their home, yet we have access to it so freely here in America and many of his church don’t read it! I hope to be a servant on this trip to the Philippines (Mark 10:45, Galatians 5:13), I’m ready for God to teach me and open my eyes and give me a new perspective again and again. I want to live my life surrendered, and live the christian lifestyle the Bible talks about, a true follower of Jesus.
