heyo!! you guys- i’m in georiga!
im starting this blog on saturday evening, but i’ve decided i’m going to wait until tuesday morning at the airport to post it. so a warning-this may be lengthy. also it may be short if i run out of time to continue it. lol
to be completely honest, life right now doesn’t feel real. for months now, i’ve prayed, and waited, and worried, and prayed, celebrated and cried, and anticipated. finally-only a few more days until I’m actually in Ecuador! i’ll give ya a run down of this weekend. 🙂
thursday:
3:00am: woke up and laid in bed until my alarm at 3:45
4:45am: the whole fam got into the car and made our way to the airport
5:30am: hugged my mom, dad, and sister one last time and made my way into the airport. from here I asked about a dozen people what line to get into and where to go to get to security-but from here we were groovy.
7:00am: take off! i only cried the entire flight to Atlanta (lol, im just kidding)(i actually didn’t cry once my fam left)..however I did learn the importance of taking motion sickness medicine BEFORE leaving. (you think i would have learned after driving through colorado last january lol) luckily, it was nothing a little sprite couldn’t fix.
9:00am (10am georgia time): landed in atlanta! found my way to the meeting place by baggage claim and hung out with my squad and the squad going to costa rica until about 3:00pm when the AIM staff finalllyyy came to pick us up.
3:00pm: spent the rest of the night in sessions and hanging out with my team 🙂
thursday night-monday night:
i’m combining literally all the other days because training camp is something i can only attempt to explain. it reminds me of going to a UTEC weekend, the leadership conference with His House in Tennessee, and a summer camp all mixed into one. together we worship, listen to amazing speakers to prepare us not only for life on the field but life in the states. we eat together, laugh together, play games, we have deep talks and talks about the absolute most random things.
our squad consists of 13 girls and 2 squad leaders. for the duration of training camp we were split into two “teams”, team arise and team abide. (i’m on team arise). these will be our ministry groups in Ecuador.
additionally, we are social distancing from team abide. this is because if one group gets covid from the airport, hypothetically one of the teams will be able to go still and the other team can fly out after they quarantine. this kinda stinks because while we can still talk with the other girls, we cant hug them or eat at the same table. but-it just makes the countdown to tuesday morning that much better!!
update: I’m now at the airport! i can finally hug all of my squad- let me tell you. they are so so sweet. i feel so blessed to be spending the next three months with these girls.
our flight leaves georgia around 2pm and we will have a layover in houston. we fly out of houston around 7pm and will get to Quito, Ecuador around 2am! i’m so thankful for all of your prayers and support. while i’m gone you can email me, text me on whatsapp or message me on facebook!
love y’all so much!!
*(my entire squad was required to get a negative covid test before training camp. and we have been social distancing from anyone we are not living with.)
