You clicked on the blog because the title intrigued you. Cool!
So to jump right in to answering the question, your donations go towards our food, transportation, lodging for both here in GA and overseas, and soooo many teeny tiny logistical details. Easy. Done.
But it is so much more than that. Your donations are going towards an environment that allows us to grow closer to the Lord, learn more than I ever could in college, and live within a community that is so beautifully rare.
Every morning here at training camp we have a 2-hour long session with a different speaker each session.
Just last week we had a guy named Patrick speak to us.
His talk was one of the first sessions that has truly caught 110% of my attention. Patrick broadly recapped what Islam is, who follows it, and what they believe. He taught us, Jesus followers, how to evangelize the way Jesus did.
We learned how to build bridges with those who practice Islam: using our shared beliefs rather than shoving Christianity down their throats… sounds crazy, but the latter is how most people view evangelism.
Between Christianity and Islam, we share alot of beliefs. Patrick has taught us to use the similarities between our two religions to build credibility and trust with the people we evangelize to.
Learning to do this will allow my squad and I to respectfully minister to people of different cultures, beliefs, and customs.
In John chapter 4, you will find the story of the woman at the well. When Jesus was talking to the samaritan woman, He was speaking intentionally to her, keeping the conversation informal, and engaging with her in conversation.
He did all of this before He even introduced Himself as the son of God. He respected the woman and her samaritan beliefs. In fact, in versus 13-14, Jesus uses the “living water” analogy found from the samaritan’s holy book.
So, if you’ve made it this far. . . Congratulations! Your donations are going towards so much more than the materialistic items. Your money is allowing me to learn how to love, serve, and evangelize the way Jesus did.
With that being said, I am still fundraising. My next fundraising goal? We need to raise $12,000 by Nov. 15th. As of right now, we have raised a total of $11,300. I am beyond blessed for y’all’s support.
