What’s up everybody! My name is Reed Barrett and I am a senior in high school from Huntersville, North Carolina.
This year I’ll be joining the World Race Gap Year program. Originally, my intentions and plans were never to take a gap year; however, God has begun to teach me that He has His own plan and timing for my life. So before I attend college in the fall of 2021 I will be going on this nine month mission trip!
There are two questions that I often get when people hear about this. What is the World Race and why are you going? The World Race Gap Year is a nine-month long mission trip (September-May). I will have the opportunity to go to Guatemala, Ecuador, and Nepal. I will have a team that I will live and work with. In each location we will have the opportunity to do ministry in the form of community outreach, community development, children’s ministry, teaching English, and of course, evangelism.
As I thought, prayed, and explored options for after high school, while also examining what the Lord had been showing me, I concluded that I want to take a break between high school and college. I want to do something that will challenge me physically and spiritually. I know that the WRGY will challenge me in these ways and I will learn things about God that I can’t learn from a classroom or a pew. I really believe that I am obeying God’s call for this chapter of my life. I am so excited to experience the Lord in all aspects of life next year especially getting to bond with my teammates over God and the amazing things He is going to do.
I look forward to sharing my experiences throughout my journey with you all on my blog. Again, thank you for your unending support!
Stay stoked,
Reed
