You are all probably wondering what I have been doing here in Ecuador to better God’s kingdom, what God has been doing in me, and if I am still even alive.  Let me catch you up on what has been going on around here.  It has been really busy and fruitful.

The first week once we got to Ecuador we stayed at Adventures in Missions base camp here to quarantine and do a little ministry to our wonderful hosts there.  We cleaned the house and did a lot of groundskeeping which involved organizing storage rooms, weeding, shoveling dirt/rocks, and sanding a swingset.  After that first week our squad split into two half of us went to a camp called El Refugio and the other half to Dunamis then after a while we will switch.  I was in the half that went to Dunamis.

Here at Dunamis we have been working in a tomato greenhouse where we weed the tomato beds, make sure the plants are straight, pick of any bad pieces of the plant, harvest the tomatoes, and sort them to be sold at the local markets.  We also have been helping to build a house for a place for the volunteers to come and stay in, and playing with the owner’s three wonderful kids.  Each week we are here 2 of the girls on our team go into casa Zoe to help cook our meals and to also work with the girls that are staying there.  We would play games with the girls, teach them English, sew or make jewelry with them, dance, and be a part of their group therapy classes.  This has been an amazing experience.  It was great to see what God has done through these girls lives and the love and joy on their faces.  Also getting to better my Spanish is always a plus.  Even though it is really busy around here we do get two days off a week one day is our adventure day and the other is our sabbath.  On adventure day so far we took a bus tour around the city of Quito, explored one of the main parks, hiked up some mountains, and swam in some freezing cold waterfalls.

One thing that God has been teaching me through all of this is that ministry can look like so many different things.  It can look like pulling weeds all week long.  It can look like playing with our hosts kids by having a mini tea party to get them away from their parents for the week.  Ministry can look like attending a children’s birthday party and seeing the joy on their face, or even hosting a birthday party for our host.  It can look like having the whole squad use the bathroom on adventure day for $.25 just to help the owner provide for her family that night.  Ministry can even look like petting the dogs and horses.  Another thing that the Lord has been teaching me is that I need to continue to deny myself and my comforts and I am constantly reminded of the real reason that I am here and that other people are at different places in doing this.  Everyone serves differently and hears from God differently.  Everyone sees the world and things around them differently.

God bless
