Slip n sliding at Training Camp
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
When I went to training camp it down poured! Now when I say it rained I mean it was like a cow peeing on a flat rock. It was a rain so heavy and hard that it got everything soaked. From the second we started putting up our tents the rain was coming down. It was easy to get frustrated at this and have it affect your whole mood. Until someone on our squad, I don’t exactly remember who, suggested we take the tarps they provided for us and turn it into a slip n slide!!! All I remember thinking was I have to leave for an individual meeting in 30 minutes but I was going to go down the slip n slide!!
JD one of my squad mates and I grabbed the tarp and headed for the hill! JD ran off to get the water hose, someone handed me soap to spread over the tarp, we threw the bottles of water we had on the tarp and we were ready to go! I have pictures that I am going to attach to this blog and follow my social media to see videos so you can see how much joy was brought! I’m not talking about happiness but true Joy that can be found even in the most tragic of circumstances!
A week that started with me annoyed with the rain turned into God showing me that I still needed to give thanks even if the rain is coming down hard.
Since training camp I have been reading through Hosea. Within it I have realized that among the unhappiness, ungratefulness, sin, and the running away God still sees how beautiful and worthy we are to be called Children of the one true King.
The Beauty of a day was almost ruined by complaining and grumbling but instead we made the best of it! There was a beauty to be found that rainy day just the same as the beauty God sees within all of us. My team found joy even in the midst of what could have changed all of our moods sour!
It was so fun to watch God work through my team. He reminded us that even if he puts us in the middle of the storm there is still joy to be found. This community is so willing to put their full Trust in God. It is challenging me to slip (pun intended) deeper into my relationship with my Father. I am overall excited because I am seeing the beauty of each squad mate just like God sees them.
As small as trusting God with the rain and a slip n slide it paves a way that I may trust God with the most difficult of things. God can help us find Joy even in the craziest times. If you are finding yourself in a crazy time I encourage you to find the joy in it! Dig deeper in your relationship with God and let him slide into your heart!
God I pray you continue to remind myself, my squad, my family, friends, and all those who need it about the Joy we found the day on the slip n slide. Whatever challenges and struggles you put in front of us on the world race or in life let us be reminded to continue to give you thanks and to seek the Joy and see the beauty of things even in the most troubling of times.
How beautiful is it that I have a squad that challenges me to become more like Christ.
