On the way downtown, we met an older lady crocheting hats on the bus. I’ll call her Anna for privacy. We talked with her for a little bit before she got off of the bus. She said some interesting things. She didn’t think the younger generation wanted her at church with them. As a representation of the younger generation, we tried to reassure her that she is important and welcome in the church (we found out later that she does go to a church when we thought she didn’t). She also told us that she goes to a certain Dunkin’ Donuts most mornings at a certain time. We said we would try to visit her, so she could show us how to crochet. We didn’t set a specific day though.

We decided to go the next day. We did our group study earlier than usual that morning to try to get to the Dunkin’ Donuts on time. However, it lasted longer than we had planned, so we got to Dunkin’ Donuts a little after 10. When we went inside, Anna wasn’t there. We weren’t sure what to do. Should we wait? Should we go do something else?

After discussing it few a minute or 2, two of us felt like God was saying to wait. We sat at a table outside and talked for a little while, but she still wasn’t there awhile later. My teammate, Ellie, mentioned walking around the neighborhood and looking for her. We walked for a little while, but we didn’t find her. When we got back to Dunkin’ Donuts, Ellie had to go to the bathroom. When we went in, Anna was there!!

We sat and talked with her for 2 hours! She tried to show us how to crochet, but she was going too fast for Ellie and I. Thankfully Annie had crocheted before, so she was able to help us later. Anna gave us one of the hats she had made, a crochet hook, knitting needles, yarn, and embroidery floss. She refused to take anything from us. She even told us that she hadn’t wanted to get up early, but she remember we might come to see her. If we had decided to wait until another day, we might not have seen her.

Since she gives us all of that stuff, I felt like I HAD to learn to crochet. I already knew how to knit, but I had struggled with learning how to crochet in the past. I looked up a video on YouTube to learn. Thankfully I was able to pick it up, and now I’ve made several things.

Through this experience, I learned that we can make plans, but God has His own plans. Sometimes our plans might happen, but other times, things might look very different. Two Bible verses stick out to me in regards to the situation.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT) says, “‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’”

Please pray for Anna! Pray for her mindset and spiritual walk. Pray for God to provide for her and bless her. I’m not sure if she’s a born-again Christian or not, so please pray about that as well.

Thank you all so much! God bless!
