Hello beautiful people!! I am officially on the Race, overseas, in Ecuador doing ministry. Our squad got to spend a week together at AIM’s base which is the home of a lovely couple, Mabe & Fabi. We got to adjust to living in another country and set ourselves up well for the next few months.
And here’s what I’ve learned so far:

All of Ecuador is absolutely beautiful. (photos attached)

My team actually enjoys cleaning the kitchen.
While at Mabe & Fabi’s, we got to do this every night. Lots of singing and dancing was involved. It was actually really sweet. Fabi usually joined the singing, he won’t dance with us.

My heart aches and breaks for the Venezuelan people.
Ecuador, being a country near Venezuela, has received over half a million refugees in the last year. Fabi was telling us how they affect him directly and it was a story of so much gratitude and compassion. My eyes welled with tears as he told us what most of them go through when they WALK from Venezuela to countries between there and Chile. Which is VERY far. I already knew what was going on with this but this day made it pretty clear to me that they hold a piece of my heart.

Never waste food.
Mabe & Fabi are really big on being good stewards of what the Lord provides, especially with food. We ate lots of apple cores and seeds, parts of chicken and meat that we didn’t think we could, and in the process we established the alphas of the group. The ones that can eat the most of other people’s food who didn’t finish (Camille Neigh everyone).

It’s good to get your hands dirty.
My team and 2 others on my squad are at our ministry site, Dunamis, since Wednesday. And we’ve been working in the tomato greenhouse, where they grow and sell over 8,000 tomatoes. So we had the joy of caring for the plants big time. My hands were covered in layers of soil after the first 2 and a half hours were up. And oddly enough, it felt good. (even though it still won’t all come off…)

Teams CAYA, Brosaic, and Abandon ADORE a good view
Dunamis is in the mountains, which are entirely green, overlooking the city of Quito. And there’s a roof access. I think you know what goes on.

God speaks through Narnia.
I’ll probably write an individual post about this later. But, I’m currently reading all of the Narnia books, in book 6, and WOW! C.S. Lewis really did something. There is so much beauty in how the Lord (Aslan) is described and behaves as a character. And Lucy is a beautiful embodiment of childlike faith and how growing up affects that.

The Lord is really present in Ecuador.
As exciting and new as everything is right now, Ecuador feels like home.
Because the Lord IS HERE.
And He is home.
In the days and nights where things get stressful, hard, and emotional, He makes room for me to just sit and be with him, talk to him, and hear from him. His presence here is pretty sweet but I’d say it’s really powerful. He’s commanding things over my life and our squad for the next 5 months and I can’t WAIT to see those things fulfilled.
¡Hola gente hermosa! Estoy oficialmente en el World Race, en Ecuador, haciendo ministerio. Nuestro grupo pudo pasar una semana juntos en el base de AIM que es la casa de una pareja linda, Mabe y Fabi. Pudimos ajustarnos a vivir en otro país y prepararnos bien para los próximos meses.
Y esto es lo que he aprendido hasta ahora:

Mi equipo disfruta limpiar la cocina.
Mientras estar donde Mabe y Fabi, hacíamos esto cada noche. Había mucho cante y baile y fue muy lindo. Fabi normalmente cantaba con nosotros, pero no bailaba.

Mi corazón se rompe y duele por la gente de Venezuela.
Ecuador, siendo un país cerca de Venezuela, ha recibido más de medio millón de refugiados en el último año. Fabi nos estaba contando cómo los Venezolanos lo afectan directamente y fue una historia de gratitud y compasión. Se me caían las lágrimas cuando nos contó por lo que pasan la mayoría de los que CAMINAN de Venezuela a países entre ee y Chile. Y eso es muy lejos. Ya sabía lo que estaba pasando con esta situación pero este día me hizo muy claro que tienen un pedazo de mi corazón.

Nunca desperdicia comida.
Mabe y Fabi se enfocan mucho en ser buenos administradores de lo que el Señor les da, especialmente la comida. Comimos bastantes corazones y semillas de manzanas, partes del pollo y carne que no pensábamos que podíamos, y en el proceso establecimos los alfas del grupo. Los que pueden comer la mayor parte de la comida de otras personas que no podían terminar su comida. (Camille Neigh)

Es bueno ensuciarte las manos.
Mi equipo y 2 otras de mi grupo estamos en nuestro sitio de ministerio, Dunamis, desde el miércoles. Y hemos estado trabajando en un invernadero de tomates, donde crecen y venden más de 8,000 tomates. Entonces tuvimos el placer de cuidar las plantas. Mis manos estaban cubiertas en tierra después de las primeras 2 horas y media. Y curiosamente, se sintió bien. (aunque todavía no sale la tierra de mis manos…)

Dunamis está en las montañas, que son enteramente verdes, con vista a la ciudad de Quito. Y hay acceso al techo. Creo que sabes lo que pasa.

Dios habla a través de Narnia
Probablemente voy a escribir un blog individual sobre esto más tarde. Pero, estoy leyendo todos los libros de Narnia, estoy en libro 6, y WOW! C.S. Lewis hizo algo bueno. Hay mucha belleza en cómo el Señor (Aslan) es descrito y se comporte como un personaje. Y Lucy es una hermosa personificación de tener fe como un niño y cómo crecer afecta eso.

El Señor está muy presente en Ecuador.
Con lo emocionante y nuevo que está todo ahora, Ecuador se siente como un hogar.
Porque el Señor ESTÁ AQUÍ.
Y El es mi hogar.
En los días y noches donde las cosas se ponen estresantes, difíciles, y emocionales, Él hace espacio para que yo pueda sentar me con él y estar con él, hablar con él, y escucharlo. Su presencia aquí es muy linda pero yo diría que es muy poderosa. Él está ordenando cosas sobre mi vida y nuestro grupo por los próximos 5 meses y no puedo esperar para ver esas cosas cumplidas.
