Last week turned out to be a tough one for me as I found that I had become extremely homesick, to the point I couldn’t even text my parents without getting teary-eyed. For those of you who know me know that I am a huge daddy’s girl and my mom is my absolute bestie! Between my morning cup of coffee with my mom that always turned into 2 or 3 and the countless hours spent with my dad in the barn making signs…….it is safe to say that going from being with them everyday to only seeing their faces through FaceTime once or twice a week was definitely a huge adjustment for me!
However, God knew exactly what I needed. We gave up our room to a group of nine women from an organization called “Wholeness Journey”. They came from the States to provide a retreat for the women here in the recovery program. We were able to participate some and help the ladies with anything they needed. Our mornings started with a yoga session which was very relaxing and I realized that I should probably start doing more of it over the next six months. We would then join them in a few activities based on the topic for the day. It was amazing to see the women of the program open up and the deep conversations meant so much. The last day we walked to the Botanical Garden where we discussed how to take care of our bodies then had an amazing yoga session in the garden! We then set up stations for nails, makeup, facials and massages it was a treat to love, serve and pamper the women of Medellin!
On the second day of the retreat I was able to get to know one of the women named Heather. She is the type of person that makes everyone feel loved and treated us just like her own children. Everyone loved Heather and we all miss her dearly but she was exactly what I needed to help fill the hole of missing my mom! It is crazy how someone I didn’t even know two weeks ago can provide the comfort I needed and make me feel so loved right when I needed it the most. Like I said above, God knew exactly what I needed and that was Heather.
Besides the retreat here are a few happenings over the last few weeks….
-We survived 15 girls in just 8 beds in a 2 room apartment! Who would of known that sleeping on the terrace under the stars on our bed rolls would be so fun!
-Our view of Medellin from the cable cars as we went up and over the mountain was breathtaking!
-Thankful for the Graffiti Tour of Medellin which was once the most dangerous place on earth (Pablo Escobars territory) is now filled with beautiful art and so many stories to tell promoting hope and peace!
-Our team joined the worship team for the foundation and combined the songs… so much fun to have a room full Colombians, Wholeness Journey women and us all worshipping together!!!
