The first few days that been so great!! We got to the orphanage Tuesday night. It was later so we pretty much just had supper, hung out for a while and then went to bed. Wednesday we got a tour of the campus It’s a lot bigger than I originally thought, although we did arrive at night. The orphanage is about 50 years old and was founded by a guy from California. It was only open for a short amount of time before closing because of the war. About 12 years later, the war was over and Nicaragua had a new president so the founder was able to come back and reopen the orphanage.
After lunch we started some ministry work. Some went to the plantation farm, some cut fruit, there was cleaning, painting, and I got to help in the garden with two other squad mates. That was fun we got to talk and get to know each other a little more.
The next day our team leader, Matt, joined us. We got to go to the farm and help hall wood to build the fence more. There we got to see a scorpion! We even got to hold it! When we got back from the farm there was lunch and then to kids came! We played games with them and football (soccer). I’m actually kinda surprised at how little English the kids know. I was expecting them to know some but most of the kids don’t know any. Since I don’t know Spanish this makes it hard to talk to the kids. There are a few people that know Spanish well so they help out a lot which is so nice!
