the words we heard as we stepped off the plane in San José three short days ago, and probably some of the sweetest words I’ve heard in a while.

if you’ve kept up with me at all, you know that world race gap year is intended to be nine months abroad, spending three months in three different countries. I originally signed up to be in Romania, then India, with my last three months (March to May) being here in Costa Rica. again, as I’m sure you know, because of covid, we spent September to December in America, before launching to Costa Rica just last week, with no plans of going to Romania or India.

I say all of that to say, “bienvenidos a Costa Rica” were not just words of excitement and new beginnings, but words of the sovereignty and faithfulness of our Father.

the months of camping in Georgia were months of growth. It was a very fun, very special three months, but not without its trials and challenges either. Those months in Gainesville included lots of wondering what this current month would look like, lots of trusting that the Lord had a plan even when we couldn’t see it, and lots of clinging to hope even in the midst of confusion.

But the Lord always finishes what He starts right?? Philippians 1:6 🙂 when a pandemic interrupted the plans I thought I had to travel the world, the “what ifs” started flowing in faster than the definites.

What if we don’t go overseas for all nine months? What if we can’t go to three continents? What if we can’t even go out of the country at all? What if we end up somewhere I’ve already been, when I had planned to go to all new places? What if the trip gets cancelled all together?

And while I could give you the answers to some of those now, and others aren’t relevant anymore, one thing that I’m sure of is that even in the “what ifs” the Lord is sovereign. and in the waiting, He is still faithful. The months of discipleship training in Georgia, the continual being broken down, to be built back up again, the countless number of sessions and discussions – I can tell you now, was just the beginning of what the Father has for my squad.

I don’t know what’s next for my squad, I’m not sure what where we’ll be after we leave Costa Rica, I’m not sure what our next month here will look like, and I’m honestly not even sure what tomorrow holds. But what I do know is that the God we serve is the same in Gainesville, Georgia, as He is in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. He has our best in mind, He always works for His glory, and He is sovereign over every moment of every day.

“And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will complete it at the day of Jesus Christ.”

Welcome to Costa Rica!
