I surrender all.
I surrender all.
but what is surrender?
it’s “deny yourself”
it’s “take up your cross”
it’s a call to follow,
that we believe is a call to loss.
but is it loss?
is surrender a losing battle?
it’s giving up food, money, comfort
leaving behind what we think matters,
but Jesus calls us to surrender,
to not focus on our job and friends,
sometimes to leave behind our family
to reach an emotional end.
but still, I surrender all.
I surrender all.
I say I surrender but why do I do it?
why?
because comfort isn’t really worth it.
because materialism is a lie.
Jesus says to leave your father,
to forsake your job if need be,
but in the leaving, what do I gather?
surrender is a blessing.
not always for spending at the store,
maybe not for more coffee money,
maybe the blessing isn’t actually anything more?
no, it’s not more things,
not more food or comfort or drink,
but the blessing of surrender is way better.
way, way better than you think.
so, I surrender all.
I surrender all.
I say the blessing is better, but what is it?
it’s found in the upside down kingdom,
not serving to get more stuff,
but living in the kingdom.
living out of freedom.
I surrender all.
I surrender all because in it I receive Him.
so in all the so-called losses,
the surrender?
it’s a win.
Jesus gave up all things
and in that, He gave us victory.
He gave up Himself.
He did it for you. He did it for me.
so I surrender all.
and I don’t count it as loss
I get to deny myself.
I get to take up my cross.
I leave everything, my comfort, my leisure,
because I’ve counted the cost. I’ve already measured.
and I surrender all.
it’s a victorious win.
it’s a posture to receive Him.
when I receive Him,
He becomes my comfort and my love.
He becomes my joy, my strength, my hope.
my rest becomes rooted in the Father above.
in surrender I find life.
the Creator of all things,
He calls me His wife.
we, the church, are His bride,
in His kingdom we dwell,
in Christ we abide.
so come.
come in your nothingness and pain.
leave your brokenness at His feet.
and it’s there that we find gain.
surrender is a posture that we choose
and a promise that will not lose.
surrender and submission.
where the gift,
it’s Him.
the all-sufficient, ever-loving God.
so gladly I say,
I surrender all.
I surrender all.
