Hey guys! I can’t believe it! I’ve officially been here for one month! It’s insane to think back on these past 4 weeks because it’s been a blur. I also can’t believe I leave for DeQuincy, Louisiana in approximately 10 hours! I’m so excited for my first week of ministry and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! For today’s blog, I decided to share 30 things I’ve learned since I’ve been here for 30 days, haha, get it?
-
Twenty minute showers ARE possible.
-
If you fall asleep pretty much anywhere, someone (probably Nikki) will for sure take a picture of you.
-
Walking a 2.2 mile hike with 40+ lbs on your back is not as fun as you want it to be, but it does feel rewarding.
-
I can’t poop in porta potties.
-
God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.
-
Borrowing and switching clothes is just like shopping.
-
Hand washing your clothes doesn’t mean the red dirt stains will go away.
-
I have a family of daddy long leg spiders that visit my tent each night (Bob, Phil, Charlie, and Lucy, of course).
-
Pen tattoos are almost as much fun as real tattoos.
-
God is a God of healing and miracles.
-
Playing volleyball with a soccer ball does not feel great.
-
Vending machines are sneaky little contraptions that steal your money when you’re not looking.
-
The last hour of Avengers: Endgame is slightly confusing when you haven’t seen the previous movies, but still very sad and made me cry.
-
If you create space in your life for God, He WILL fill it.
-
Go pee right before you fall asleep at night or you will be waking up at the crack of dawn with the urge to pee so bad you can barely even crawl out of your tent, let alone walk the long walk to the porta pottie.
-
Georgia weather is almost as bipolar as Iowa weather.
-
If you run down the steep Jesus Hill at full speed, your life will flash before your eyes.
-
God speaks through every good and perfect thing in your life, not just words.
-
Hand washing clothes can be fun and satisfying.
-
Georgia COVID tests are much less painful than Iowa COVID tests (in my opinion, of course).
-
The uphill walks and stairs to the campsite doesn’t get easier.
-
Dance parties in the dark are a form of some of the purest joy on earth.
-
“Bruh.” and “What the-” are the newest additions to my (and my squad’s) vocabulary.
-
The hiking trail is absolutely beautiful when you’re not distracted by carrying a 40+ lbs backpack.
-
Facetime calls with family and friends back home are truly special.
-
It is possible to fundraise $900 in 24 hours (ask Marissa if you don’t believe me).
-
God’s presence is enough.
-
Fasting is a great way to turn your focus off of worldly things and instead focus and depend on God and His strength.
-
Sometimes, you just have to use the back door of your tent with the spiders if there is a big mud puddle in front of the front door.
-
It’s interesting to figure out the lengths one will go to to avoid having to walk the 3 minutes to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Thank you all for reading! Come back in about a week for an update about my time in Louisiana! Love you all:)
