Dear South Africa,

You feel like home. You welcomed me with opened arms. I found community that I never imagined possible being so far from home where my family and friends are.

To the team and volunteers at Love Story. Thank you for loving us so well during our three weeks with you. You taught how to truly love people like family and be the hands and feet of Jesus in all that we do. From making the perfect paste for a cup of cappuccino (iykyk) to dishing out bowls of food at City Feed, Jesus was always at the center of everything!

You all spoke life into me in ways you could never know. You taught me that people can become instant friends if you let them in. Playing “unomi” was such a great way to become instant friends!! You also taught me that it doesn’t have to be a long journey to healing but that I can be healed instantly if I let God in to do just that.

Thank you for pouring truth into my life and allowing me to do life with you all! I’ll never forget you and the beach trip to Sardinia Bay or the dinner parties at Liska’s where I truly felt home.

I’ve never been excited to make peanut butter sandwiches or chop veggies until this month when I just desire to be at Love Story ALL the time. My heart broke for the kids we encountered at the temporary home we volunteered at. Playing with play-dough and coloring was worth seeing the kids get excited. I’ve never danced in front of people until I went to Gladys’ crèche. Her kiddos had so much energy and they loved to sing. Dancing with them and making them laugh to “head, shoulders, knees and toes” made the top of the list of memories.

I already miss Port Elizabeth. I will forever be thankful for the people God put in my life and the chose y’all to pour into my life!

Love,

Katlyn
