Revelation 7:9
9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
We are one in Christ. We are one community, spread over the entire earth. That in the end God brings us ALL together as followers of Jesus. But what creates a community?
Luke 10:30-33
30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.
Compassion is what creates our community and in the end Jesus says, “You go, and do likewise.”
Go and show compassion to those in need. And EVERYONE is in some NEED.
Matthew 35:40
40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
Even now we have constant contact with Jesus through people, all people, from religious to atheist. We are all brother and sisters in Christ. The samaritan did not care who the man was, he cared that the man was in need and showed compassion.
Jesus did not care who we were, jew or gentile, but that we were in need of salvation. So God showed compassion by sending his one and only son to be crucified for us.
James 5:11
11 Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
God has compassion for unrighteous sinful humans.
1 Corinthians 1:9
9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
We are not just called to be like Jesus we are called into friendship WITH HIM.
Proverbs 17:17
17 A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity.
Our community was created by compassion, through the compassion that Jesus showed to us and the compassion we are called to give to others. But our community is not limited to anyone, it is open to everyone. Open to adversity. That in the end every Nation, every Trip, and every Language together in community praising the one true God.
