“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Why a mission? Why do something that is not necessarily always easy or comfortable? There are many excuses that we could come up with to tell ourselves that we are doing enough or our schedule is full enough; but the truth is that we will always be able to fill our schedule with one thing or another. What really matters is what we fill it with. In life, we all have seasons, meaning different times in our life with different opportunities. Once we reach a certain season in our life, there will be a specific way that we can serve the Lord and others around us during that time; but if we miss that season in which we can serve in a specific way. That opportunity to serve in that unique way will pass and you will never be able to serve in that specific way again. Each season has its own unique gift and purpose behind it which can help us grow individually while also helping those around us grow as well.
Why a mission then, one may ask? Because it is what we were made for. At baptism we except the Lord as our Savior and choose to follow what He had commanded. He said, “Go forth and make disciples of all nations.” This means we are always on mission from the day of our baptism. We chose to follow God and through that we must be an example of his love and mercy everyday. Some may not all be called to serve on the same type of mission, such as going out of the country and serving the poor, but we were all made for it. God works in many unique ways and is always there to help us through the harsh times. No, it is not always easy to do the Lord’s will, but thats not the point. We were not made to be comfortable, we were made to know, love, and serve the Lord in this life so that one day we may be joyfully happy with him in the Heaven.
