It’s been about 3 weeks since we arrived in the Dominican Republic! We are living at the beautiful Mission of Hope base in Gurabo. Here’s Mission of Hope’s website if you want to learn more about them! https://missionofhope.com/
Our ministry here is incredible. Since Mission of Hope is fairly new in the DR, they are still learning about the communities around them & how they can best serve them. So far, we’ve spent our time in communities within Santiago, and communities further up in the mountains, just getting to know the people.
**Just to preface in light of COVID, we take caution when we enter into people’s homes, & we wear our masks all the time.**
We work with pastors from church’s in the area we visit. The pastors know the area well, and often have already built relationships with the people there. In conversations we can often point people to the pastor/church, to allow for relationships to be built & continue after we leave.
We spend time with whoever the Father puts in our path: people in their 80s/90s, young mothers, teenagers, and children in the communities we visit. We learn about their families, work, living conditions, and what they believe. We’ve had the opportunity to pray over finances, for healing, protection, and so much more.
Everyday holds new people & conversations. New chances to see the Lord & to share His goodness. Visiting homes has probably been my favorite ministry we’ve done on our race. We have the opportunity to talk to people in all different places with their faith, and simply meet them where they’re at. We’ve gotten to talk to people who are wrestling & have questions. It’s helped me to ask questions as well, and search for answers.
It’s so clearly visible that the Lord has been moving in the hearts of the people in the DR long before we got here. (which is a given – we just get to enter into everything He’s doing!). I’m excited to share stories from our ministry, and stay tuned for a closer look into our days here!
And it would be impossible to talk about ministry & not talk about our translators! They come with us everyday & help us translate just about every conversation we have. They’re a group of incredibly kind & passionate people. Building relationships with them has definitely been one of the biggest blessings here!
Prayer requests:
- There’s a lot spiritual warfare here. Pray for strength physically, mentally, and spiritually.
- Processing. There have been a lot of changes within our squad recently that we’re working through. We’re also nearing the end of our race & processing this whole season is a lot!
Thank you all for your prayers & support, I’m real grateful for you guys.
All the love,
Jen
