Right now I am going through a 10 week discipleship making training through my church. It is only day three and I have been so encouraged by the community that I have found myself apart of and mostly with how God is showing himself to me in new ways.
I’m learning God promised Abraham that his offspring would be as numerous as the sand and the stars in the sky. Just take a moment to try and fathom how numerous that is. It’s so extremely huge that I cannot even begin to wrap my mind around how many people will come to know Jesus!
Revelation 7:9
“After this I looked, and behold a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.”
This verse blows my mind and brings so much awe and joy to my heart. Just as God promised Abraham! There will be a multitude of people in heaven so large that no one will be able to count how many, and that is such amazing news!
God is mighty and he is absolutely able to bring all of his children to him without any help. But what we see all throughout the Bible is God working through us and using his children to bring in more people to his kingdom. Paul discipled Timothy, Moses discipled Joshua, and the ultimate example is Jesus and his 12 disciples. They were not just all discipled, but were taught through their discipleship of how to be disciple makers, to multiply!
God is teaching me just how important it is to the Christian life to be a disciple maker. And not just the importance, but also how much he wants to use me and work through me. He has invited all of us to be apart of his kingdom work to bring glory to himself. And how does this bring glory to himself? Because even though he uses us and works through us, he is the one in the end who is bringing people to himself and changing hearts of stone. It’s not a matter of if you are qualified enough, but a matter of is He qualified? And the answer to that is always yes!
If you’re anything like me, God wanting to use us and work through us to make disciples sounds intimidating. Even though there are still fears that I am working through with this concept, I am learning to trust Jesus more and more through this process. When God asks us to make disciples he isn’t telling us that we should be discipling someone new every week or even every month or months! Discipling can look like helping to bring one person to Christ a year.
The things that God can do through us by leading just one person to Christ a is unfathomable!
He will not return until his promise is fulfilled. So, let’s live in our purpose and let’s follow the great commission to go out and make disciples of ALL nations! Because how could we not share this good news with others?
