Hi amazing people!! How is everyone? There has been so much happening/not happening so far this year, just remember that Covid-19 can’t cancel God!!
This is a lot for one blog, and it was a very hard one to write, but here we go!!
Mission trip update:
Due to the many impacts of Covid-19, we are not able to leave as planned for the mission in September, and my squadmates and I were given three choices.
-
Postpone our gap years until fall 2021, this would most likely be a 9 month trip as planned.
-
Stay home for 3 months, and leave for a 6 month mission trip in December.
-
Spend 4 months training in Georgia, where Adventures in Missions headquarters are located, and then go off on a shorter 5 month mission trip starting in January.
I have chosen option 3, and will be leaving for Georgia September 2nd! I spent a lot of time thinking about this decision, and I am so excited to meet my squadmates in September and spend 4 months growing in our faith together! This also means I will have the opportunity to come home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas!
As far as fundraising goes, my goal is still $15,800! Right now I have a shirt fundraiser going on, and have only sold 15 shirts out of my 100 shirt goal!
A little bit about my faith:
We all have lost loved ones. When God has greater plans for someone, he takes that to heaven to spend eternal life with Him. I lost the person I looked up to the most, the person who didn’t just tell me about Jesus, but showed me how Jesus calls us to live. She is the reason why I wanted to become a Christian. She was diagnosed with Leukemia the summer after graduating from high school, and on March 10th, 2017 heaven gained another angel.
The meaning behind shirt design:
The butterfly on the shirt design is for her. I think of her every time I see a butterfly. Butterflies represent a transformation from an old life into a new one. She transformed from her life on Earth, into eternal life with Jesus. The butterfly represents all of your loved ones who have made the same transformation. As a Christian, you also make a similar transformation when you accept Jesus as your savior, you throw away your old life to start a new one with God. Because of these two butterfly meanings, I knew I wanted to include one on the shirt design. The other part of the design reads “all of creation sings your praises”. This comes from Psalms 66:4, “Everything on earth will worship you; they will sing your praises, shouting your name in glorious songs.” I wanted to include this verse because every day it reminds me of God’s glorious power and righteousness. God made everything, from the dirt beneath our feet to the magnificent sunrise every morning. It also reminds me that God’s not done with anyone’s story. Even when we go party with Jesus up in heaven, our story isn’t over, we have forever life with Him. We are praising God during all seasons of our lives, through all the ups and downs life throws our way. Even when God closes a door, we praise him in the hallway. God is good.
