So here’s the big question…..Why the World Race?

Have you ever been in a situation where you think you have everything planned out and then you get thrown for a loop and end up in a place completely unfamiliar to you? Maybe it’s a place where you feel lost or broken? And you wonder to yourself, what purpose does God have for you in this place?

Well, I have..and I can promise you God not only has a purpose for you to be in that place but he has a plan for you. God lead me to the race and this is my story.

I attended Virginia Tech for undergrad and majored in Biological Science, minored in Chemistry, Sociology, and Medicine in Society. The medical field has always fascinated me and my desire to become a doctor originated back in the third grade.  So following undergrad, I entered into a Post- Baccalaureate Pre-Medical program at the Medical College of Virginia. After graduating from that program, I worked in the medical field while I applied to medical school. After two application cycles, I opted to going to a US accredited school in the Caribbean called St. George’s School of Medicine. I finally felt like I was getting to accomplish what God had put me on this Earth to do. See, what I’ve always wanted to do more than anything is to care for people, to be able to take care of them and that coupled with my love for medicine drove my desire to become a doctor. But things did not go as planned for me in the Caribbean. I was targeted and began being harassed and threatened by some of the locals. After some time, I couldn’t take it anymore and ended up coming back to America. I felt so lost and broken after returning home. My dreams seemed shattered and I didn’t know where to turn…except to God. I prayed for an understanding, I prayed for guidance, and I prayed for hope to get through this hard time. The answers didn’t come right away. I dove into my faith causing me to reevaluate what I truly wanted out of life and there was one thing for certain, I wanted to make a difference in other peoples lives. So, I got involved in church and started serving as a student leader. I loved being able to mentor and care for the girls at the church. Then, one day during worship it just came to me that I should participate in a mission trip. I love serving the Lord and the thought of being able to spread His word with the compassion needed to touch those around the world..brought joy to my heart and direction to my life. I started to research mission trips and the World Race is the one with the mission that really stuck with me and I knew I wanted to make the commitment to go on this journey with God. The World Race commitment states “Pursuing the Kingdom of God through intimacy, community, and mission”, and that’s exactly what I plan to do while on the race.
